After a rather long wait to get the chance to go, we found ourselves with unseasonably warm weather for November and made quick plans to have an outing to the Baltimore Zoo. A few Alicia Keys, Van Halen, and Stevie Ray Vaugh songs later, (mixed with a few from Linkin Park for Miquel and Chris) and we were at the zoo.

The trip was dotted along the highway with breathtaking autumn foliage. The park, the parking area and the zoo itself didn't disappoint either. The trees were very inviting.

The first view of the animals was a sleepy bear, a snow leopard, and an illusive arctic fox.

I found the flamingoes very photogenic!

Next we found a docent showing off some birds, one being a kookaburra. --->

<---Some scenes along the paths. A tower to climb, autumn in its glory, and one very nicely posed polar bear.

Next were the Zebras and Rhinos...

The african antelopes...sitatunga, kudus, and dama gazelles really took my fascination.

Rock Island
Home to the African Black Footed Penguins
They are endangered, but very prolific at the zoo.
They are flightless, but 'fly' underwater at 20 miles per hour.
I don't know how I got a shot of one swimming!

Some more scenery from around the zoo, and my son's favorite, a nice shot of a cheetah.

This fella was a real study. It apparently killed a squirrel. Acted as if it was going to eat it. Then it didn't. Put it down, then went to get a paper. At first, I thought it was going to do something domestic like wrap the squirrel up in it, but no. Instead, he put the paper over the squirrel, then lay on top of it, and proceeded to play with a cylinder looking barrel.

A golden pheasnt, a turkey in the children's zoo, and a wandering peacock.
